My proposal to Capture One would be to produce a version that only exports low res files, or perhaps doesn't export raw files at all. You can't make local changes to HSL/Color or Tone Curve like you can with Capture One Pro.I want to keep playing with Capture One Pro but the 30-day limit makes it tricky as I want to dip in and out whenever I get time.

Which leads me to back-up and help. I see in the forums that the driver isues remain.I had major problems with latency on large jobs, and ocasional crashes, one extremely serious in a wedding with 1,500 images being trapped for more than a week. At the time I had the impression of the latest model sports car with fundamental issues under the bonet which had not been fixed. I likened it then to Wacom (which I still use on a love-hate basis) and similar problems.
I was refered to user forums and I must say the users were very helpful, but Capture One, abismal. When things went wrong, they went very wrong and back up just disappeared. Minor problems solved immediately, clear advice and rapid response.
Pictures just needed less fiddling with to make them look good. Used it for many years and still have an old copy on my system for archived stuff.But I trialled C-1 (back when it was much less of an app than it is today), and the first thing that struck me was the improvement in image quality straight away. It's an alternative to LR, but I don't think it´s any more than that.I would never go back, even if it was freeware.Adobe has its us and downs, but it suits me.I used to use LR for all my commercial work. But to my mind, extremely overated and limited in many of the same ways LR is. I feel that Capture one has fabulous marketing and is touted by some of the best in the field.
And any tweaks I do can automatically be transferred to the next capture without any fuss. No more waiting for 5 secs to see an image. What a joy compared to LR. For the most part, their RnD team have done a stellar job at getting colour profiles just right.There's something about what I call the "micro contrast" where images feel more real, with more depth - can't quite put my finger on it.And the tethering.
This does make it easier to find a specific adjustment if you need to edit it. But it has come of age and has left LR in the dust. It makes a big difference.I find C-1 more accurate, faster and I love the layering of adjustments - far more elegant than LR.There was a time when C-1 was the awkward little brother of Raw processing. I shot an event where most images were at ISO 6400, and to be honest, I was hitting NR in PS far less than usual for post production.
In C1, you have to rasterize a gradient layer before you can brush on it and you can no longer use the control points to adjust the position of the gradient after that. This is incredibly useful. You can continue to refine your gradient by dragging the control points with the brushed in or erased areas remaining in place. In LR you can create your gradient, use the brush to erase a portion of the area inside the gradient and to add portions outside the gradient area (a face, a tree, a building, etc). Linear and Radial gradients are not one of those areas.
I didn't realize how often I did this before I started editing in C1. Or maybe in a portrait where maybe you have a gelled or colored light visible in the corner of the frame, you can use a gradient with that same color to enhance it or extend it further into the frame. You can't create a linear gradient, fill it with blue, and drag it over your sky for example to make an overcast day look more like a clear day. You can't make local changes to HSL/Color or Tone Curve like you can with Capture One Pro."This is true that C1 makes more tools available for local adjustments, but one thing it does not have is the color tool.
